US GP - Farce or Tragedy?
The universal reaction to the events (or should we say, non-events) of the US Grand Prix in Indianapolis has been outrage - from fans, sponsors, television viewers and those who were unfortunate enough to attend in person.
The FIA has hinted that the seven teams who boycotted the event will face major sanctions, either heavy fines or bans of some duration. At worst, they could face a lifetime ban, although it's hard to see how that would benefit either the sport or the general public. And it has been hinted that draconian measures will only result in further boycotts by the teams in question.
So, who should be punished? The teams, for refusing to participate? Michelin, for failing to bring a suitable tyre to the race? Or should the whole sorry mess be written off as a learning experience?
